Confirmation

Forming Missionary Disciples

Proclaim the Word!

Catholic confirmation is a sacrament that strengthens baptismal grace and completes the process of Christian initiation by bestowing the gifts of the Holy Spirit upon the confirmed. It is administered by a bishop through the anointing with sacred chrism and the laying on of hands, which deepens the recipient's relationship with Christ and the Church and equips them to be a witness to their faith.

Sacrament of Initiation: Confirmation is one of three sacraments of Christian initiation, along with baptism and the Eucharist.

Gifts of the Holy Spirit: It is understood as the gift of the Holy Spirit, increasing the seven gifts: wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

Strengthens Faith: It strengthens the bond with the Church and equips individuals with the grace to live out their faith more fully and to witness to Christ in the world.

Symbolic Act: Confirmation is also a public renewal of the baptismal vows, where the individual confirms their own faith commitment.

Come, Holy Spirit,

I invite you into the very depths of my being. Lead me, guide me, coach me, encourage me, and challenge me. Direct me in all things. Teach me to become a great decision maker, so that in every moment of every day I can choose what is good, right, noble, and just. Amen.
